When I bought the OMD EM5 I thought this is one feature I would never use. And ever since I bought this camera I never did use it. I let my friends and family use it, but every time I got my camera back I always went back and placed it on Manual or Aperture Mode. I thought, it was better if I just edited it on the computer after. But just last month after I started using it, I found myself using it more often than I thought I would. I started composing differently than I would normally do. Dull things became more interesting. I found myself taking more fotos, experimenting with all the different art filters for different images. My Concerns were changed, editing after was no longer in my mind. All I thought about was taking the picture and uploading it. Suddenly, taking fotos just became a little bit interesting and different.
If you have an olympus system, I strongly suggest playing with this feature. It's not for professional use, but it is a lot of fun. That's why I bought a camera in the first place. For FUN.
There are two ways to use this feature:
One, is to select the ART on the mode dial. This shows you the effect it will create with sample images to select from. After choosing an effect you will be able to see the effects live view. To return to selecting the desired filter, you just simply click OK.
And the other in any mode PASM is to press OK on the live view screen, select Picture mode, then either turn the front dial to select the desired art filter or click OK again then select the desired filter using the dial or left and right button.
The Art Filter I use most often. Specially when colour is involved.
The Art Filter I least use. It softens everything.
This lightens and desaturates colours.
One of my favourite Art Filters. It makes the foto from a birds eye view look like toys. Works best from an overview perspective.
Makes images look eerie.
This one makes everything look like an exaggerated HDR image.
Makes any image look like a cartoon drawing.
Note: Art filter does not affect RAW files. If taken with RAW, camera will automatically create two files. A RAW file and an art filtered JPEG.
All images are unedited except for the watermark.
